Unit
A unit is a standard bet size, expressed as a fixed slice of your bankroll rather than a dollar amount. Most bettors set one unit at 1 to 2 percent of their bankroll. Using units keeps bet sizing consistent and lets bettors compare results without revealing exact stakes.
A unit is the answer to the question "how much should I bet." Instead of choosing a stake by feel, you define one unit as a small, fixed portion of your bankroll and treat that as your normal bet.
If your bankroll is 1,000 and one unit is 1 percent, then a unit is 10. A bet you feel strongly about might be two units, and a lighter bet might be half a unit, but the scale stays anchored to the bankroll rather than to emotion.
Units also make results comparable. When someone says they were up 5 units on a stretch, they are describing performance without stating exact dollars. More importantly for a new bettor, thinking in units enforces consistency, which is the habit that keeps a single bad night from turning into a hole that took real discipline to avoid.
