Teaser
A teaser is a type of parlay that lets you shift the point spread or total in your favor on two or more selections, in exchange for a lower payout. Every leg still has to win at the adjusted number, so the softer lines come at the cost of reduced odds.
A teaser trades payout for a friendlier number. You pick two or more sides, and the book moves each spread or total by a set amount, commonly six points in football, in the direction you want. If the Rivertown Foxes are laying 7 points, a six-point teaser drops them to laying 1.
The tradeoff is the same one every parlay carries. Because you combined the legs, all of them still have to cover at the new number for the ticket to pay, and the odds are shortened to account for the help you received.
Why the number matters
Not all points are equal. Moving across key numbers, the margins games most often land on, is worth more than moving through empty ranges. That nuance is why teasers are studied more carefully than they first appear.
Still a combined bet
A teaser is a parlay underneath. One leg missing at the adjusted line sinks the whole ticket, so the softer spreads do not remove the core risk of tying selections together.
Teasers can feel safer because the lines look easier, but the shortened payout and the all-must-win structure keep the overall math honest.
