Futures

A futures bet is a wager on an outcome that will be decided later in a season or tournament, such as which team wins a championship or how many games a team wins. The odds are posted well in advance and can move sharply as the event approaches.

A futures market asks a question that will not be answered for weeks or months. Who lifts the trophy, which player wins an award, whether the Mesa Miners finish above a certain win total. Because the result is far off, prices are listed early and shift as teams win, lose, and get injured.

The long horizon is what defines the bet. Money you place on a season-long futures ticket is tied up until the market resolves, so it is not available for other spots along the way.

Why the odds look big

Futures prices often carry long odds because many outcomes are competing at once. When a whole league is in play, no single team is likely, so a winning ticket can pay a large multiple of the stake. That headline number reflects how hard the outcome is to hit, not a promise about it.

Prices move

A futures line you took early can look very different later. The odds you locked in are fixed for your ticket, but the market keeps repricing as the season unfolds.

Futures reward patience and a long view rather than a single game read.
